In the picturesque mountain setting of Quarna Sotto, located on the enchanting plateau at 900 meters above sea level overlooking Lake Orta, stands the Parish Church of San Nicolao, a symbol of identity and spirituality for the local community. However, in recent times, this precious structure, built starting in the 1200s, has suffered severe deterioration, primarily due to the cracks and fissures affecting the sacristy, rendering the entire place of worship unusable since 2022. The millennial history of Quarna Sotto, characterized by ancient traditions and a unique cultural identity, is also reflected in the history of its parish church. The restoration project is necessary to preserve Quarna’s historical-architectural religious heritage and restore the sacredness and functionality of this much-loved place of worship. Thanks to the commitment of the community, the launch of crowdfunding on the Intesa San Paolo platform, and the support of the Fondazione Comunitaria del VCO, it will be possible to raise the necessary funds to carry out the essential restoration work to return the Church of San Nicolao to its former glory.
